High Point Market & Halloween

It’s not even the second half of October, and yet fall is in full swing; the weather continues to cool and our sunny skies turn to grey, rainy skies. But don’t let the advent of rainy, cool weather get you down! Rain or shine, there’s still plenty of fun in store for the second half of October. Here’s what’s coming up.

Fall Furniture Market:

Every fall, thousands of furniture manufacturers and retailers head down to High Point, NC for The High Point Market. As usual, Connell’s Furniture & Mattresses takes this opportunity to travel on down to the furniture market to pick out the latest trends and styles of brand new furniture we know you’re going to love.

In fact, the High Point Market is the world’s largest furniture tradeshow in the world, brining more than 75,000 people together from more than 100 countries on 11.5 million square feet of showroom space! Now that’s a lot of furniture! And as the High Point Market Website says, “if you can’t find it in High Point…it probably doesn’t exist.”

So, that’s why we make the trip down to High Point in the fall, to bring the newest and best furniture back home just for you. We come back with fashions that are in style year-round for your living room, bedroom, dining room, kid’s bedroom, as well as occasional furniture and accents from the most trusted brands like Ashley, Broyhill, Flexsteel, Magnussen, Vaughan Bassett, and more!

Halloween:

Halloween will be here in a little less than 3 weeks! Whether you have kids who will be trick-or-treating, you’re an empty nester or a single family, we have several fun ways to celebrate this Halloween!

  • Invite trick-or-treaters over: If you’re not out trick-or-treating with your kids, it’s a ton of fun to turn on the porch light and pass out candy. Just put up some decorations – like a fake cobweb, and stuff some of your leaves into an orange pumpkin bag – dress up in a costume and buy a few bags of candy for the kids and have fun passing it out! It’s always a blast to see the smiles on the kids’ faces.
  • Go trick-or-treating: It’s always fun to go trick-or-treating with your children, nieces or nephews or a group. Offer to chaperone your family around and have a blast with the little ones while they gather candy!
  • Drive through your neighborhood and look at Halloween decorations: Anymore, it seems people spend as much time decorating their homes for Halloween as they do for Christmas. From inflatable pumpkins, fake tombstones, spiders, to scarecrows, it can be a blast to drive the neighborhood and see the decorations. So pack the family into the car and take a drive!

From all of us at Connell’s Furniture & Mattress in Mt. Vernon & Newark, we’re wishing you a very safe and Happy Halloween!

Fun Family Fall Outdoor Activities

Isn’t fall great? As the days get shorter and the weather begins to cool, we tend to want to get outside more and enjoy the season. And why not, fall brings new changes, such as leaves changing colors and seasonal fruits and vegetables. With that said, below are some fun seasonal activities from Connell’s Furniture & Mattresses the whole family can enjoy that will get you outside to enjoy the new season.

  • Go apple picking: One great place to take the entire family is Lynd Fruit Farm in Pataskala, OH. Right now, families can pick apples (including Gala, Honeycrisp, McIntosh, Cortland, Jonathan, and more!), and later in the season, pumpkin picking and sweet corn is also available. Plus, they offer a corn maze and plenty of safe and fun activities for the kids. You can’t go wrong at Lynd in the fall!
  • Take a hayride: Hayrides are a great way to get out and enjoy the weather, and kids sure love them! Many offer hot apple cider, hot chocolate and other warm beverages for autumn’s cool nights. And if you’re adventurous, some hayrides are even “haunted” to add a little excitement to the experience. Click here to find some local hayrides in Northwest Ohio, and other fun activities like corn mazes, pumpkin patches and more!
  • Make a fire pit and build a bonfire: It’s easy to build an attractive fire pit with some inexpensive retaining wall that the whole family can get years of enjoyment from (always check with your local fire department to make sure a fire pit is permitted at your home, and you’re not building it too close to property lines and/or fire hazards). Once constructed, it’s easy to start a bonfire and roast hot dogs, smores and enjoy the cool crisp season with family and friends.
  • Football Friday nights: Even if you don’t have a teenager that plays high school football, it’s still fun to go and support your local high school’s football team. It’s a fun environment and you’ll get to watch a fun football game and watch two marching bands perform.

As the season changes, let Connell’s Furniture & Mattresses in Newark and Mt. Vernon help you with your home furnishing needs. We have exactly what you’re looking for – whether you want to decorate your living room with fall’s best colors or your husband wants to outfit his “man cave” in the colors of favorite football team – with our great selection of furniture and mattresses at unbeatable everyday low prices. Come check us out, we promise you can’t make a mistake at Connell’s!
