The Different types of Leather Luxury

Sophistication. Class. Elegance. Style. These are adjectives usually reserved for some of Hollywood’s classiest actors and actresses. Now, if you want your living room to radiate with same sophistication and style as Hollywood’s biggest stars, consider furnishing it with leather furniture. Leather makes a statement …  it screams modernity, luxury and it’s guaranteed to impress your guests.

But what you probably don’t know is that all leather furniture is not the same. At Connell’s, we’re here to educate you about the different types of leather so you can find the perfect sofa, love seat or recliner to match your family’s needs and comfort preference. Stop in, ask our sales professionals about the various types of leather and consider the following varieties during your next purchase:

  • Full grain leather is typically the most desirable variety.  Full grain comes from the upper section of the hide and is extremely durable, breathable, strong and long-lasting. Plus, because full grain displays the unique wrinkles and scars found on the cow’s hide, it looks extremely natural and homey.
  • Aniline leather is a dyed variety and very comfortable. It’s extremely soft to the touch, porous and relaxing.
  • Antiqued leather pieces are similar to aniline in their level of softness. However, they have been dyed twice instead instead of only once.
  • Nubuck is a variety that has been sanded on the outside of the hide. This sanding offers you an extremely strong and velvety surface that is similar to suede.

Stop into our stunning showrooms in Mount Vernon or Newark and check out our luxurious leather selections. We guarantee when you do, you won’t make a mistake!

NO OOPS™ Means You’ll Never Make a Mistake at Connell’s

Category:

Can you believe the nerve of the other furniture stores?! I mean come on! They make it a painstakingly laborious and expensive chore to return furniture that you don’t absolutely love. For instance, consider the actual example of a customer – who will remain nameless – that wasn’t absolutely satisfied with her new sofa and tried to return it …

This particular unnamed customer purchased a sofa online for $1,399. When it arrived at her home, she suddenly began having second thoughts about the sofa’s fabric and color. She decided she wanted to return this particular sofa. The customer did the math; she already paid $139.90 for shipping plus an $80 surcharge because the sofa was deemed ‘bulky.’ And to return the sofa, the customer would have to pay another $139.90 to ship the sofa back and another $80 because the sofa was still overweight. In this customer’s mind, she figured she’d have to pay $439.80 not to keep an item she loved. But in the end it didn’t really matter, the retailer wouldn’t let the customer return the sofa.

At Connell’s Furniture and Mattresses, we promise the previous scenario will never happen to you. We’re confident of this because our NO OOPS policy guarantees you won’t get stuck with furniture you don’t love.

  • NO OOPS means that if you don’t like your new furniture for any reason, we’ll take it back – no questions asked!
  • NO OOPS means you’ll never have to settle for furniture you don’t like!
  • NO OOPS means you’ll never pay additional shipping charges to return your furniture.
  • NO OOPS means you’ll never pay restocking or usage fees to return your furniture.
  • NO OOPS means you can cancel your order at any time.
  • NO OOPS means you can refuse delivery of your furniture.

We really don’t think you’ll ever want to return any furniture you purchase from Connell’s. And our experience proves that our customers actually make fewer returns.

Why you ask?

Because NO OOPS gives you the shopping confidence and freedom that you won’t find at the other stores. So be bold and take chance, because we promise when you shop with us, you’ll never make a mistake!

“Honey, who’s that scary looking guy at the front door?”

Have you ever noticed that most delivery services hire big ugly guys that look like they just rolled out of bed to deliver the precious cargo that you just bought and saved for months?  Okay, maybe some of them  aren’t very big but, most of them are pretty scary looking, aren’t they?  Most stores look at delivery as a necessary evil not as a valuable service.  So, they hire guys that are willing to work for low wages without any incentives to make you happy.  Just get it in the door and move on to the next delivery.  And try not to step on the cat…please. Can you believe some stores charge as much as $100 for this kind of service?

We think our delivery service is one of the best values we offer.  That’s why we call our guys the DREAM TEAM. You get trained caring (yes, ladies…some guys do care) professionals that will treat you and your home with respect.  And we charge a whopping $39.95!  Oh yea, if you’re not completely satisfied with our DREAM TEAM delivery service…we’ll refund your money.  How’s that for value?

(for guys only) when in doubt…read the directions

A lot of furniture today comes from far away places like China.  They basically build 1000’s of pieces of “ready-to-assemble” furniture then carefully pack them into shipping containers that eventually end up in our warehouse.  It’s done that way to save shipping cost.  Unfortunately, someone has to put this stuff together…that’s where we come in.

We open the boxes and separate all the nuts & bolts, shelves, tops, panels, and various other parts needed to create a nice piece of furniture.  Then we get our portable drills with special bits and start putting part “a” into slot “e4” and bolt “c3” with hex nut “d7″…well, you get the picture.  Sometimes you need a master’s degree in “erectorsetology” (I made that up) to assemble some of these treasures.

So guy, the next time you want to buy a piece of furniture that comes “ready-to-assemble” make sure you have lots of time, tools, and a bottle of Jack Daniels handy cause you’re going to need it.  I’d also suggest you put it together somewhere out of site like the garage or basement because after all the cursing you’re probably going to hear…”honey, did you read the directions?”

Or better yet…you be the hero.  Buy it from us and pay our $39.95 Dream Team Delivery fee and have your furniture assembled, delivered, and set-up anywhere in your home.  Trust me…you’ll thank me for this tip.  Now, go out there and sleigh that dragon.

Sorry lady. You bought it…you keep it!

"Uh...that's not what I had in mind"

Trying to return furniture that you don’t like isn’t as easy as retuning a sweater you just bought at your local department store.  Beware of the dreaded “restocking fee”. Simply put, if you are not happy with that new sofa you just bought most furniture stores will charge you a hefty fee to return is.  This can range for 10% to as much as 50% depending on each store’s return policy.  And heaven help you if you try to return a SPECIAL ORDER…most stores treat it like toxic waste…you bought it…you keep it.

Check out our return policy.  We call it “No Oops”.  If you’re not happy with the new furniture you bought from us we’ll take it back…no questions asked.  So before you buy that new sofa that looked smaller in the store then when you got it home ask to see the store’s return policy.  It can save you lots of money and loads of heart ache.

“Someone’s been sleeping in my bed…”

Remember when you used to be able to fall asleep on the floor at your friend’s slumber party?  Or when you used to stay out half the night and get up after two hours of sleep and go to work?  Well, if you’re like me, you’re older and wiser (I’m just older).  Life’s little aches and pains begin to take their toll and the only way to rejuvenate those tired old muscles is to get a good night’s sleep.  And it all starts with a good mattress.  Let’s face it, you spend one third of your life in bed and most people get up feeling like we just wrestled a bear (and I don’t mean your spouse).

Here are some tips that will help you when you buy your next mattress.

Budget

Spend half as much on a good bed as you would your wife’s engagement ring. Uh oh, some of you guys are getting a little nervous right now, let me explain.  Most young men ready to pop the question will spend about two month’s salary on the love of their life.  I recommend you spend around one month’s salary on a good bed.  You should expect at least ten years of usage when you buy a high quality mattress…wow, that’s over 29,000 hours you’re going to be sleeping on that bed!  One rule of thumb is (man, now I’m beginning to sound like my grandpa) the more you spend…the better you’ll feel each morning. That’s why people rave about the beds at most 5 star hotels…they don’t buy cheap mattresses!

Size

Buy the biggest bed your budget and your room will allow.  I’ve never talked to a customer yet that said “my bed is too big”.  Twin size (39″x74″) and full size (48″x74″) beds are great for singles while queen size (60″x80″) and king size (78″x80″) beds are highly recommended for two.  Most customers tell us they need more room to spread out and get comfortable.  Let’s face it, we all get a little “wider” the older we get.  We need our space.

Firmness

This truly is a matter of personal choice.  Some people like sleeping on beds that are hard as a rock while others like pillow soft beds.  Mattresses with multiple layers of foam, cotton, and heavy gauge coils deliver a lot of comfort for the buck.  But, consider a high quality memory foammattress.  These beds offer a unique combination of good comfort and great support.  We highly recommend Tempur-pedic brand.

Remember, buying a good mattress is like buying a good pair of shoes…at the end of a long day you never regret your decision.  Cheap shoes hurt your feet and cheap beds kill your back.  Poor sleep can lead to all kinds of long term health problems a well as just make you “grumpier”…ladies, you know what I’m talking about don’t you.  Sleep well.
